The design is similar to the iMacs of 2012. I'm also puzzled because that article said I'd need both a USB-C to Thunderbolt Adaptor and a Thunderbolt 2 to 2 Cable.but I have Thunderbolt 1 ports, not Thunderbolt 2. I was reading a 2018 MacWorld article which seemed to indicate that only Blackmagic Design eGPUs (either Radeon Pro 580 or Radeon RXVega 56) are compatible with my late 2012 iMac, but I honestly don't know if that's accurate or not. I found 2 builds for iMacs using Mac OS 10.5:īoth are for 2013 iMacs, with one connecting to an AMD RX 580 and the other connecting to an AMD Radeon VII.ĭisclaimer: I'm a bit overwhelmed as researching, purchasing, and setting up an eGPU is completely new to me.
